Why Is My Broadband Light Blinking Red? How to Fix It?
A number of lights can be seen on Arris routers that tell the working status of the network. The Broadband light is one of them. If the Broadband light on your router is blinking red, it means you are either connected to a slower WiFi network or the router is not getting an internet connection at all. Let’s find out why this happens and what should be done to tackle the issue.
Reasons Why your Broadband Light Blinking Red
Initially, we stated that the red blinking color on the Broadband light means that the router is connected to a weaker network. However, there is much more to know about that. Read the below given information to know the reasons why your Broadband light is blinking red.
1. Boot Loop
When the router is stuck in a boot loop, you cannot expect it to connect to the internet. As a result, the Broadband light starts blinking and you also face problems accessing the Arris router login page. The boot loop often occurs when
- The power cable is damaged
- The wall outlet into which the Arris router is plugged in is not working
- Technical glitches
2. Weak Internet Connection
Now, the internet connection is not always weak from the end of your ISP. It also occurs because of the following reasons:
- A damaged LAN cable is used for connecting the Arris router and modem.
- The connection is not finger-tight.
- You have utilized the wrong ports for the connection.
3. Incomplete WPS Connection
This point applies to users who have used WPS connection between the modem and router. These days, modems also support the WPS connection. There are chances that the connection has failed and it happens because:
- You have not pressed the WPS button on your devices in a particular time frame
- The distance between your Arris router and modem is too much
How to Fix Broadband Red Light?
The previous section discussed the potential causes behind the red Broadband light on your Arris router. Walk through the below given points to learn how to fix it effectively.
1. Ensure Stable Power Supply + Restart
Make sure that your Arris router is connected to a working wall socket. The Power light must be solid green. If the socket as well as power cable is free of damages, you should power cycle the router using the given steps:
- Unplug the router from the outlet.
- Keep the Arris router idle for a few moments.
- Re-plug the modem.
2. Stabilize the Internet Connection
If the Broadband light is still blinking red, ensure that you have not used a damaged LAN cable for connecting the Arris router and the modem. The connection is supposed to be finger-tight on the other hand. Additionally, ensure that you have used the correct ports that have been mentioned below for your ease:
- LAN port of the modem
- WAN port of the router
3. Use WPS Connection Correctly
The WPS connection will be only successful and the Broadband red light will only be fixed when you maintain a proper distance between the modem and router. They must not be placed very far. However, you cannot make the distance zero. The following points must also be considered:
- Do not keep the WPS button pressed for more than 5 seconds.
- Ensure that the WPS button on the second device is pressed within 2 minutes of pressing the WPS button on the first device.
With that, you will be able to fix the Broadband red light on your Arris modem. However, if things are still not working in your favor, you should reset network settings by resetting the Arris router.
